Editorial and customer profiles

This is the risk assessment I have created in order to do my photo shoot in a hall. I tried to think of as many risks as possible and then try to solve them in the best possible way.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Media Questionnaire.

Whilst creating my questionnaire i knew that it would be good for discovering what my target audience would like to see on my magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread.

One advantage is that i could gain accurate results as I chose reliable people to answer it. This was a good way to gain information as I was hoping that the results I got were going to represent the genre of music chosen.

A disadvantage of doing a questionnaire was that there was a possibility that the results that I got would be invalid due to people answering it not taking the questionnaire seriously. Luckily this wasn't the case.

Another advantage was that I was able to give my questionnaire to all age groups so i was able to obtain different opinions from different ages.

related videos

The song I have chosen is related to dance music and is similar to that of the contents I will include within my magazine.  Calvin Harris is considered as a dance artist as his music is most commonly found in a club being blasted out of speakers to the point that you can feel the beats through the floor

What is Media?

Web 2.0 is the term which is being used to describe the way in which the world wide web is now currently developing. 2.0 refers to the second generation of web based feeds and communities.

Mediation is the process in which a media text represents an idea, issue or event to us. This is a useful word as it suggests the way in which things undergo change in the process of being acted upon by the media.

The media is strictly regulated in countries such as Africa, China and Ethiopia, so that the government can control what is being portrayed to the public.  Although some may see this as a bad way to influence the way in which people learn from media. Many people can be hypnotise into thinking the wrong thing through the way in which some government leaders in restricted countries put across in the media.

The term, "media products are shared" Means that the mass audience towards media becomes part of our everyday lives. In influences the way that we speak, and the things that we do day to day. Even people that don't associate themselves with certain media texts will still know to a degree, catch phrases and sayings related to the texts. Eg. television catch phrases. Many phrases that come from TV or films are often heard on the streets said by mainly young people and therefore influence the way in which people talk to other people.

Media convergence means when different types of media come together and in many cases interlink with each other. For example, TV, music, newspapers and magazine used to be very separate from each other and weren't often associated with each other, however now you can get access to all these things on something as easy as the internet and are now very often mixed together now.

The media is very important in todays society, because it is a very important way to communicate. Over time the media has progressed excessively due to an advance in modern day technology.

Magazine Mood Board

This is my mood board. It specifies on what genre I will base my magazine on. It includes the target audience, why I chose the genre, the main colour pallet, and what I propose to call my magazine.

Privileges - The final Magazine Cover

This is the final Magazine cover called Privileges.

On the 30th Spetember 2011 Alex Walton, Sidmouth Herald photogrpaher, came in to host a media day for the whole of The King's School media students.

The begining of the day was an introduction to the world photography and gave us a presentation of some photos that he had previously taken that had been published in the newspaper. He gave us some crutial tips on how to get to the final product.

After that we got the chance to do some final photo shooting to produce a final photo for the magazine cover. My initial idea was to produce a performing arts magazine for the music and drama department of the school. Alex suggested that I should do a magazine that appeals to the whole of Sixth Form and so I changed my idea completely. So after taking Alex's ideas into consideration I decided on taking a few photos of my friends whilst they were working on their magazine covers which was when Alex suggested that I could use his state of the art camera. After taking a few practise shots I finally managed to persuade two of my friends to be in the finished product.

Learning all these new skills about photography has deffinately opened up my eyes to considering a career in photography. Alex's visit was deffinately an experience in its self as we were able to get first hand advice and use the tips he gave us to put them all into our magazine covers.

If I could make any changes to what I have produced I would take more time into preparing what I should be focusing on and getting on with what I want the outcome to look like. By rushing at the last minute to produce a photo good enough to be the front cover made me panic a bit and I got really frustrated when something went wrong with what I was working on, but luckily enough I have learnt that not all things that we set out to do go as smoothly as some people may say. I will deffinately take away some good tips from Alex and what he has taught us and I will deffinately put these tips into good use in the future and hopefully go into a career where I can express everything I've learnt from the media day.

Photo editing

The photos included are ones taken with the aim of creating a magazine for a school or college. My magazine choice is Performing arts.

Preliminary task

Using DTP and an image manipulation programme, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.
